Will.I.Am The Chosen One for Michael Jackson's Return Album
After giving chart-topping hits with Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, The Game, John Legend and Nas, producer and Black Eyed Peas founder will.i.am has undertaken the task of bringing back King of Pop Michael Jackson's singing career from the ashes.
The 48-year-old Thriller singer, whose career has suffered extensive damage due to child molestation charges, has been doing 'lot of talking on the phone, a lot of brainstorming' with the 31-year-old producer for a new album.
Will.i.am, legally William James Adams Jr, churned out hits from albums like FutureSex/LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake, The Big Bang by Busta Rhymes, PCD by the Pussycat Dolls, Once Again by John Legend and Advocate by The Game, among others, in 2006.
“Man, he still sings like a bird. He could go anywhere. I think we have a real opportunity to do something here. It's either gonna be really big or nobody's gonna care. Ain't no middle ground on this one,” will.i.am said of Jackson and the planned album. Jackson, on his part, said of will.i.am: “I think he's doing wonderful, innovative, positive, great music. I thought it would be interesting to collaborate or just see how the chemistry worked.”
Michael Jackson, who has been making headlines for his financial woes, was acquitted of charges of molesting a teenaged cancer survivor in June 2005. A previous allegation of child abuse was settled out of court. However, the episodes made Jackson reclusive and his career and financial strength started a downward spiral. The singer headed for Bahrain after the acquittal and was believed to have vowed to never return to the United States. He, however, made his first public appearance after the acquittal on May 27, 2006, at the MTV VMA Awards in Tokyo.
Later on November 15, 2006, Jackson was given a Diamond Award at the World Music Awards. At the ceremony, he was expected to perform but he didn't, instead joining a chorus of children for We Are The World. Various reports of Jackson planning a comeback album with Akon, Chris Brown, DJ Whoo Kid, and even Teddy Riley, have surfaced time and again.
