Eminem’s Ex-Wife Kim Discusses Relationship on ABC’s 20/20

Kim Mathers, two-time ex-wife of Eminem, appeared on ABC’s 20/20 recently and opened up about the couple’s tumultuous relationship. During her interview with reporter Juju Chang, Kim talked about the many ups and downs she has endured throughout her nearly 20 year relationship with the superstar rapper. While Kim admitted to being unfaithful to Em in the past, she also pointed to the rapper’s “constant infidelities” as one of the more trying aspects of being married to a successful artist. Kim also mentioned the early years of their relationship, when they were too troubled kids growing up in Detroit. “If he got kicked out, then I would walk the streets with him until he found a place to live,” Kim said. “Or if I got kicked out, he was always there for me. It was just a close connection.” Kim also speaks about the effect that Em’s song “Kim,” in which he talks about killing her in graphic detail, had on their marriage. “This is supposed to be a man that loves me, and is supposed to protect me…from being hurt, and here he is disrespecting me in the worst way possible in front of millions of people, and in front of our kids, my family, my friends,” she said. When Em broke a promise he made not to perform the song at a concert in Detroit, Mathers went home and slit her wrists. Eminem issued the following statement to ABC through a spokesperson, “For the sake of our children that we raise together, I have made a decision to not participate in matters such as this.”
